The Qur'an abhors all religions

Updated: Apr 19

I believe the Qur'an abhors all religions, because it's God's guidance for all mankind (2:2), not a book of religion for Muslims.

Mankind is one community and anything that separates them is disallowed.

2:27 Those who break this ratified Bond of God and cut asunder the unity of mankind that God has commanded them to uphold, and thus lay the foundation of chaos on earth, those will be the losers in the long run.

9:33 He is the One Who has sent His Messenger with Guidance and the True Deen (The Divinely Prescribed System of Life), that He may cause it to prevail over all religions and systems of life, even though the idolaters may detest it.

10:19 And not was mankind but one community, then they differed. Had it not been for a Word that went forth from your Lord, He would have judged their disputes immediately.

42:13 He has ordained for you all, the same Way that He enjoined upon Noah - And We have revealed to you (O Prophet) the same message as We enjoined upon Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: "Establish the Way and make no divisions in it.” The unity you call to, it is hard upon the idolaters. God draws to Himself everyone who is willing, and guides to Himself everyone who turns to Him for guidance.”

49:13 O Mankind! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that you may recognize one another. Certainly, the most honored among you in the Sight of God is the one who is best in conduct. God is Knower, Aware.

(Only the best in conduct, not a believer of the best religion.)

Deviation from the Deen begets religions

3:19 Remember that the only System approved by God is Peacefulness. Those who were given the scripture dissented from it through mutual rivalry and envy, after knowledge had come to them. If anyone rejects God's revelations, then God is Swift in reckoning

(After people were given the message, they created their own religions.)

23:53 But they (mankind) have torn their affair of unity between them into sects, each sect rejoicing in what it has

13:37 Thus, We have revealed it, an articulate decisive authority. If you follow their likes and dislikes after the knowledge has come to you, you will have no protector or defender against God.

42:14 And they became sects for no reason but through rivalry among themselves, after the knowledge had come to them. Had it not been for a Word that has already gone forth from your Lord for an appointed term, all matters would have been decided among them at once. The later generations who inherited the scripture of the old still keep harboring doubts about it.

This is so plain to see nowadays, everyone, especially Muslims, are prideful about their rituals, announcing to the world when it's prayer time, building the biggest and most beautiful mosques etc. On top of that, some Sunnis declare all other sects invalid, never mind other religions...

Divide, divide, divide...

So all religions are wrong, because the minute you have one, you tend to think of "others" who are not with you.

And especially if you were in the majority, you think it's OK to impose your beliefs on others, or make others conform to yours in some way or other. Worse, turning them from original submitters to mushriks, when they start following other than their embedded Kitab.

Proof?

Take a look at the Islamicity Index - the successful nations are the ones who have detached religion from aspects of public life and governance, while the ones causing suffering are the "religious" countries.

55:13 Then, O Men and women! Which authority of your Lord will you deny?

What, then, is the impact of this division?

The Qur'an recognizes that the division mentioned above is not the only result, as much as it is abhorred. When people are divided into groups or factions, it is usually on the basis of following some person of significance or other - and if that person is a prophet associated with God, then each division is a religion.

Judaism was built around Prophet Moses, Christianity around Prophet Jesus, and Islam (the religion) around Prophet Muhammad, each proud of their prophet and associated rituals. In short, religions represent a special association of the respective Prophet with God, and this is shirk, as elucidated in this video by the Qur'an Study channel.
